I’ve not timed it, but yes, I’ve seen Windows take considerably more time to compile a project. Compiling plugins will often result in an “application not responding” message. I don’t do development on Windows very often so it’s never annoyed me to the point of reporting it (and even if I did could they really do anything about it!?).

Well, if I see that you can speed it up with a flash or ram disc, my guess is that they write stuff to the exe file in small chunks. Maybe with binarystream.writeByte or something like this. You should know that writing one chunk with 10 MB is something like a million times faster than writing 10 million times one byte.
So I guess they can improve things there. But not sure how important this is for Geoff. And this could be solved with the LLVM compiler.
